Technology Objectives

Primary Curriculum (Kindergarten – 2nd Grade)
Upon completion of the 2nd grade, students at Zion Lutheran should be able to perform the following objectives.

Computer Literacy

  1. Computer Ethics
    1. Practice the basic policies in Zion’s Acceptable Use Agreement
    2. Follow technology lab rules
    3. Follow directions given by technology teacher
  2. Hardware
    1. Identify computer components
    2. Demonstrate proper care of hardware components
    3. Use the mouse to navigate the desktop and software applications
    4. Identify letters and numbers on the keyboard
  3. Software
    1. Demonstrate proper care and handling of compact discs
    2. Load, start, and navigate software
  4. Operating System
    1. Start computer
    2. Navigate the desktop
    3. Turn off computer

Project Based Learning

  1. Educational Software
    1. Use drill and practice software to reinforce and enrich academic objectives taught in classrooms
    2. Use internet websites to reinforce and enrich academic objectives taught in classrooms
  2. Presentation software
    1. Understand basic slideshow concepts
    2. Create an electronic book with audio

Creativity

  1. Touch typing
    1. Demonstrate correct hand placement on the keyboard
    2. Locate most letters on the keyboard by touch
    3. Type select words by touch
  2. Word processing
    1. Use the keyboard to capitalize, punctuate, and edit text
    2. Compose short stories or poems
    3. Save and print work
  3. Graphics program
    1. Use menus to save and print work
    2. Use text tools to insert and edit text
    3. Use graphic tools to paint pictures

Intermediate Curriculum (3rd – 5th Grade)

Upon completion of the 5th grade, students at Zion Lutheran should be able to perform the following objectives.

Computer literacy

    2. Understand copyright laws
  2. Hardware
    1. Identify computer components
    2. Explain the function of computer components
  3. Software
    1. Demonstrate proper care and handling of compact discs
    2. Load, start, and navigate software
    3. Save and print files
  4. Operating System
    1. Log on with user name
    2. Open, save, and rename files from windows
    3. Use folders to organize, delete and move files
    4. Turn off computer

Information Access

  1. Reference Software
    1. Use encyclopedia software to locate and retrieve information
    2. Cite reference material
  2. Internet
    1. Use the Internet in a safe and God-pleasing manner
    2. Navigate a web browser
    3. Use bookmarks
    4. Use search engines to locate information
    5. Use available data to answer research questions and create a report

    2. Use keyboard shortcuts

    1. Log on with user name
    2. Open, save, rename and locate files
    3. Use folders to organize, delete and move files
    4. Backup files to a floppy disk
    5. Run desktop utilities (calculator, disk cleanup, defragmenter)
    6. Run virus checking software

Information Access

  1. Reference Software
    1. Use encyclopedia software to locate and retrieve information
    2. Cite reference material
  2. Internet
    1. Use the Internet in a safe and God-pleasing manner
    2. Navigate a web browser
