Join us as we celebrate National Lutheran Schools Week!  The theme this year is -

“Baptized for this Moment”

Here is our schedule for the week:

Sunday, January 27th

• Preschool sings at 8:00
• Coffee hour hosted by preschool

Monday, January 28th

• Opening devotion by Pastor Boernke at 8:15 a.m. in the gym
• School Spirit Day
• Non perishable food drive starts

Tuesday, January 29th

• Class choice

Wednesday, January 30th

• Red Day (Heart Health)
• Jump Rope for Heart (afternoon)
• 100th Day of School

Thursday, January 31st

• Chill and Relax day (sweats, pajamas, slippers, etc.)
• Read-Around-Zion 1:30 – 2:30pm
• Noon – Food Drive ends

Friday, February 1st

• Winning Food Drive class gets breakfast provided by PTL
• Sports Team Day
• Staff vs. 8th grade volleyball game time TBD/ in the gym – Parents are invited to join us!
• Picnic lunch – bring a blanket if you want
• Closing devotion in gym – immediately following the game

Lutheran Schools Week

Each year, Zion joins other Lutheran schools across the country in celebrating Lutheran schools week as a way to show appreciation to our church, staff and students. PTL will be sponsoring the following activities, and there will also be much more fun in store for the week. If you are interested in volunteer opportunities, please contact Jenny Chockley, PTL President at jchockley@msn.com and she’ll put you in touch with the right activity coordinator.

In addition to the PTL sponsored activities, the students will have special activities each day coordinated by the LSW staff committee made up of Mr. Hart, Miss Lee, and Mrs. Jaynes. A big thank you to these teachers for making this week a special time for our students!

Sunday March 4th – The week will kick off with Kindergarteners and 1st graders singing at church at the 10:45 service. Be sure to drop by and say hello at church coffee hour at 9:00 a.m. and watch the slide show created by the students.

Monday March 5th – After a special devotional time to kick off the week for the students, they will show their school spirit with a little ribbon tying ceremony.
Food drive begins. The food drive will run from Monday through noon on Thursday and will benefit local families in need. The classroom with the most food collected will win a free breakfast on Friday! The winner will be determined based on a ratio of students to food donated.

Tuesday March 6th – Jump Rope for Heart. Support the American Heart Association, and enjoy some fun, physical activity! PTL will provide healthy snacks for those who participate.

Wednesday March 7th – Chapel Day/Staff Appreciation. The Zion staff will be recognized during chapel and special guests will be invited to attend and visit their students classroom between chapel and lunch. Also, special guests are encouraged to visit the book fair in the library during lunch for complimentary cookies and shopping. Please consider donating to your child’s classroom by choosing a book from the teachers’ boxes.

This is the perfect time to say “thank you” to your teacher for all they do everyday for our students. If you would like to say “Thank you” in a special way, check out the school website at www.brightonzls.org and view school’s wish list.

Thursday March 8th -Make sure to have your donated food items turned in by noon so that they are counted!

Friday March 9th – Teachers vs. 8th Graders volleyball game. All are welcome to come and enjoy this fun Zion tradition. Come cheer on your favorite team! PTL will provide a treat for all students. Remember – Friday is an early release day.  Friday afternoon PTL and the Christian Board of Education will treat the staff to a delicious lunch as a small way to say, “Thanks!” for all they do.

Sunday March 11th – To wrap up the week, 2nd and 3rd graders will sing at the 8:00 a.m. church service.
