Mr. Zagel plans to be back to work on Monday, October 12. We had previously thought he’d be back yesterday, October 5. However, his doctor believes that one more week will be beneficial to his overall recovery. Please keep him in your prayers!

Amy Seifert, Zion’s bookkeeper, is also dealing with a medical issue. Amy’s liver has been slowly failing and she is now in need of a liver transplant. A donor appears to be found, but several more tests are needed to ensure a correct match. If all goes well, Amy will hopefully have a liver transplant within the next two months or so. She will then be recovering from surgery for a period of 6 months or so. Please keep her in your prayers! In the meantime, Lori Morgan a member of Zion Lutheran Church will be handling all of the accounting responsibilities. Welcome to Zion Lutheran School as we begin our 2015-2016 school year! I would like to share my appreciation to our returning families for continuing to make Zion your choice for educating your child(ren). To our new families, we joyfully welcome you into the Zion family.

Since this is our first school-wide communication of the year, I’d like to mention a few things that will help to make this year a smooth and successful one. The following informational bullets will be beneficial to you and your child(ren)…

  • Put Jesus 1st in your life
  • Punctual attendance is expected, school starts @ 8:00am each school day, be here as early as 7:30am – Parents it is imperative that we get started on time each day, so we ask that you exit the building by 8am each day, unless you are volunteering for a teacher, in which case check in at the school office to receive a visitor pass
  • If you haven’t yet, activate your Edline account – Starting August 31, your child’s grades (1-8) will be available on the school website — check your child’s grades weekly and hold them accountable for missing work.
  • Communication is the key, read the Lion’s Roar found on the website and emailed to each family, teacher’s weekly newsletters, and email teachers when necessary.
  • Become very familiar with Zion’s website, it has useful information. Check out the “Parent Information” tab for most of your school forms and schedules.
  • Make sure your child is wearing appropriate attire each day for a Christian school. Our dress code policy can be found on the website. (no mohawks or spaghetti strap shirts)
  • If you ever have a concern with a teacher or staff member, please speak to them directly first. If concern is resolved great, if not speak with the principal or ECE director. Following this process is Biblical and helps to minimize issues and concerns.

Again, I am excited to start a new school year and look forward to working with you as we seek to educate your child(ren) spiritually, emotionally, physically, and academically.

Presale begins tomorrow and goes through Thursday. Tickets will be on sale be before and after school. Each $25 in presale tickets gets you entered into a drawing for a pair of tickets to the Broncos-Vikings game on October 4th!!

Please be aware, due to carnival set-up on Friday NO hot lunch will be served. Students need to bring a sack lunch to be eaten in their classroom. No microwaves will be available, but milk will be.

New this year, a pumpkin patch will be open for you to purchase your fall pumpkins during the school carnival. Pumpkins will be $5 each, cash only, no carnival tickets may be used. – First come first serve.

Zion has a new after school club, Astronomy! Mrs. Reck will be the acting staff member. The first meeting will be this Wednesday from 3:15 – 4:15 in the Art Room. The club plans on meeting on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays. The club is open to students in grades 3 – 8th. Thank you to Cole Roberts for his vision for this new club.

The Lion Award is given to honor those students who exhibit positive, Christian traits in five basics areas; scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship. Each week teachers and staff, grades K-8, will choose student recipients based on their behavior and actions the previous week to be honored in chapel in front of their peers. Students who are recognized in one or more of the five areas mentioned above will receive a Zion car magnet as our way of honoring them for their Christian behavior! The idea behind the program is to encourage Christian behavior and reward them for it, and to balance that out with the current system of disciplining those who do not.

ZLS Golf ClassicWe are proud to announce that we are now accepting entries to the 4th Annual Zion Lutheran School Golf Classic.

The fourth annual golf tournament will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015, at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie. The registration fee for the tournament is $125 per player. The format is a four-player scramble, with check-in starting at 6:30 am and a shotgun start at 7:30 am.

A lunch and awards ceremony will follow golf. Included in the fee is your round of golf with a cart, pre-tournament warm-up with free range balls, plus a post golf lunch with door prizes. Prizes will be awarded for the lowest team score, longest drive, and closest to the pin. Mulligan packages and mulligan strings will also be for sale.

Colorado National requests that all players wear proper golf attire. All players are required to wear collared shirts; slacks, shorts or skirts must be hemmed and in good condition. Recommended short/skirt length is mid-thigh. Tank tops, swimwear, cutoffs, gym shorts and the like are not acceptable. Metal spikes are not allowed.

All proceeds from the tournament will go toward Zion Lutheran School’s Financial Aid fund to assist families with tuition costs.
